The New Pike Township YMCA

A glimpse at the new Pike facility

“We need a YMCA for our kids, for our senior citizens, for everyone.”
Nathaniel Jones
Superintendent, MSD of Pike Township

The Impact

Fifty-eight percent of the 93,886 households in Pike Township have an annual income of less than $50,000, and 43% of township children receive free or reduced-price school lunches.

Market research shows that there are very few opportunities and organizations that are ready to provide support services to the underserved population in Pike Township.

The community needs organized, accessible programs for youth, teens and families, as well as a safe place for young people of all ages to spend out-of-school time. A new YMCA will be that place for the residents of Pike Township for generations to come.

The Proposed Facility

The new YMCA facility will be located at 54th and Moller Road—facing Lafayette Road—and adjacent to Snacks Crossing Elementary School. The location is centrally located and is accessible to a large underserved population in Pike Township.  The YMCA will lease 12 – 15 acres from MSD of Pike Township for ten years with a renewal option for five additional years and eventual purchase option. This generous gesture from the leadership of the MSD of Pike Township is a strong indication of the steadfast commitment from the community to build a YMCA facility in their area.

As with all branches of the YMCA of Greater Indianapolis, the new Pike Township YMCA will offer a generous sliding fee scale to provide access to membership and program services to individuals and families who cannot afford regular fees.

The new Pike Township YMCA will feature:

  • Two gymnasiums with full basketball courts
  • Wellness Center
  • Child Watch (on-site babysitting)
  • Men’s, Women’s, and Family/Special Needs locker rooms
  • Health Education/Community Room
  • Primetime Center
  • Two aerobics/multi-purpose rooms
  • Non-denominational chapel
  • Indoor warm water instructional pool
  • Indoor lap pool
YMCA MISSION: to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.
