Saturday, April 30 is Perry Cultural Festival and Healthy Kids Day

Join us for a celebration as we host the Perry Cultural Festival from 11 am – 3 pm. Put together by Perry Township, UIndy, and the Baxter Y, the festival celebrates the rich, cultural diversity of the Southside. Come for food, music, kids’ games, and a soccer tournament! Healthy Kids Day is a chance for us to open our center to the community. Invite friends and family to visit the YMCA as guests and enjoy all the amenities we offer. The center will be open to the community from 10 am -2 pm.

No Youth Sports League Games this Saturday, April 30th.

It’s Time to Focus on Keeping Children Safe Around Water
YMCA Swim Lessons Teach Life-Saving Skills

There is a list of basic life skills all parents instinctively know they must teach their children to keep them safe and healthy. It includes habits like looking both ways before you cross the street, washing your hands with soap and water and eating the right amount of fruits and vegetables every day.

For too many parents, safety in and around water is not on the list; and that’s something we need to change.

Fatal drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death for children ages one to 14 years old. The problem is particularly acute among minority communities. African American children ages 5 to 14 are three times more likely to drown than their white counterparts. The disparity is partly due to the lack of swimming experience among these children. KIDS: Are you looking for a NEW SPORT to try this summer? Do you like to swim, ride your bike, and run? TRIATHALON could be your new sport!
